Great Smoky Mountains Sees Increase in Visitors Last Year

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Sees Increase in Visitors in 2006

Despite a slow start and a down summer, the 2006 year saw a 2% increase in visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There were over 9.4 Million visitors to the park last year. This can most likely be attributed to a very mild winter and the fact that even though gas prices are high, Gatlinburg and other areas surrounding the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are in close proximity to some very large populations. Not only did daytime visitors increase but also those who enjoy the national park during the night – the campers. Both front-country and back-country campers increased in numbers from 2005 to 2006.

Read more about the increase in the number of Visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in this Associated Press article.

What are Your Resolutions for the Year 2007?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge Attractions January 16, 2007 @ 11:49 am

Happy New Year!

This time of year, most people take the time to set goals and make resolutions to change their lives for the better in the new year.  What are your resolutions going to be?  To lose weight?  Work out more?  Work harder?  Make more money?

I think most Americans need to take a little more time off from work and enjoy their lives a little bit more.  I have recently taken on a lot more duties at work, which includes a lot mroe stress and many more hours of work during the week.  I have been complaining to her that it seems like our days are all exactly the same: we get up, work all day, come home and eat dinner, go to bed and do it all over again.  I guess that is the same situation that we all live in.  There isn’t usually enough time to take care of the stuff that needs to get done around the house.  That’s why we can’t just take a vacation from work and get any rest.  We seem to have to get away so we aren’t tempted to do all the little things around the house during our time off.

One of my resolutions this year is to work smarter so that I can have more time with my wife at home.  We can spend more quality time together so we can build on and develop our relationship.  One of the things we plan on doing is taking some short vacations together.

If you’re in this same boat, I would encourage you to check out the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area because the area is so beautiful, there are tons of things to do including, hiking and seeing the beautiful natural sites in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there are lots of restaurants, minor league baseball, local artisans who sell their wares, and much more.  And if you just want to get away from everything you don’t even have to leave your cabin or chalet in Gatlinburg.  You can spend your days in a rocking chair looking out over the Smoky Mountains, relaxing in the hot tub or sleeping in a hammock.  Gatlinburg provides the needed break from reality and the working world where you can take care of yourself in any way you want.
